I hafta write:
a free verse, a ballad, an ODE, a sonnet, a limerick, a haiku, a lyric, and a elegy. i wrote my lyric today, so i thought i'd post it. just for funnsies.
here it is. it's called Once Upon a Time. (it sounds much better when i put the intended tune to it, btw.)
Kicked and torn and beaten,
My heart will never ever be the same.
It kills me deep inside, every single time I hear your name.
You look me in the eye as I pass by,
Your eyes are shouting obscenities and lies.
I still have not forgotten,
Every time you ripped my heart from my chest.
I swear I did my best.
But my best just wasn’t good enough for you.
So please, please tell me, what did I do to you?
I was content being invisible.
I was happy to be ignored.
But still, I was trapped in that cell,
Where you made my life a living hell.
Once upon a time,
I had a form of release.
Once upon a time,
My heart was still in one piece.
But that story ended,
That book is closed,
And my happy ever after
Is once upon a time.
My life, just for a while, began to cease in meaning.
I was crying and praying for real life to start again.
And I began to depend
On the memories of way back when…
It didn’t matter much back then.
You singled me out.
You made me play your stupid victim.
So then, up ‘til now, I was subjected to criticism.
You gave me your label—didn’t matter what I thought,
Because apparently my ending had already been bought.
I was content being invisible.
I was happy to be ignored.
But I was forced to play along.
You made me dance to the beat of your song.
Once upon a time,
I had a form of release.
Once upon a time,
My heart was still in one piece.
But that story ended,
That book is closed,
And my happy ever after
Is once upon a time.
And now, when I see you,
Unearned hatred in your eyes,
I remember the times when I almost told me life goodbye.
Because of you, because of you.
It was all because of you.
Your words are trapped inside my mind.
Opinions turn to fact,
And I can’t distinguish
The difference.
My happy ever after
Is just once upon a time.
that's all for now.
lotta love,
Alyssa
